Cut from brass bar stock, this is the heavyweight version of a part we developed at the request of the Border Patrol Tactical Operations Group (BORTAC).
This 140mm basepad design has been through multiple upgrades, and still has extra features not found on basepads intended for competition.
- High Security locking plate design (no "quick-release" cut).
- Heavier shoulder profile. More durable overall.
- (NEW!) Updated shoulder profile - safe for use in the VP9A1 and VP9A1K.
- (NEW!) Lightening cuts on sides and top increase grip, reduce weight/bulk.
- (NEW!) Dot-tracker system for keeping track of individual mags.
- Fits 15 & 17 round mags
- USPSA legal -- fits the "141.25mm" gauge used for Carry Optics, Limited Optics, Limited, etc.
Adds 5 rounds to the HKVP9 and HKP30/P30L .40 S&W and 9mm magazines (adds 4 on the new 17-rounder). Also works on the HKP2000 and P2000SK, where it provides 4 additional rounds.
Competition Value: While working on this project, we were contacted by 3-Gunners who also shoot the HK. Happily, the design works for them as well. Northwest 3-Gunners TJ Lurvey and Tavis Miller participated in the R+D. For them, going to 18 or 20/21 rounds total makes this family of pistols vastly more competitive in ways it just wasn't before.
CUSTOM SPRING INCLUDED: The "Border Special" ships with a custom 140mm spring. (Using the standard spring, the slide will not lock back consistently.) Older VP9s with 15-round magazines use a different spring -- available on request.

Working Great
If you have the newer VP9 A1 F it works great. Fits perfectly in the grip, fits in the USPSA 140mm mag check. Here’s a tip: over the years HK has changed the followers in their magazines. Newer 17rd magazines have a follower that is slightly shorter. If you have the newer A1 F you got 2 mags. One 20 rounder (not USPSA legal, too long) and one 17 round. The 17 round in the A1 F is likely a newer shorter follower. This is what you want to work perfectly with these extensions and springs. Your going to need to buy some more 17rd mags if you’re looking to do USPSA (one is not going to cut it) when you buy these 17rd mags you’ll need to look and see if they have the shorter follower. How can you tell? There is a slight gap between the follower and the metal magazine. The older followers have no gap, they are longer and there is no gap at the top of the magazine. The older followers recess into the metal magazine. If you want to be sure get the magazine in your hands before you buy it or if you’re ordering online order the magazines from HK with the newer baseplate that has the cutout meant for the A1 F. I’ve never seen a 17rd magazine with the newer baseplate design also have an older follower.

Taylor Freelance brass +4/5 Border Special basepad
I always wait to review a product until I’ve put it through its paces. This TF base plate is a winner. Over 300 rounds of Federal 124g 9mm ammo without a hiccup. I put another 300 rounds of Herters 115g 9mm through it with the same results. This +4/5 base plate is an excellent addition to an excellent pistol, the HK VP9. Works flawlessly with my TF magwell. The brass construction gives the gun a little more weight, adding to better follow-up shots and smooth mag changes. If this gun will eat through 600 rounds of this range ammo without any issues, I’m sold. Fast shipping and quality part. Can’t find the downside to more ammo at my fingertips.

Best competition mag extensions
Taylor Freelance makes some solid mag extensions! These mag extensions make 17 round mag extensions legal for USPSA and you won’t find anything better than these. It’s gotten to the point where the only mag extensions I buy now are from Taylor Freelance.

Just plain awesome
This really helps balance and reduce felt recoil with my VP9 and my P30. Be aware that some older mags have a different spring which can be order separately. I didn't know this but the owner helped me identify what I needed to make this work. Overall great product and even better customer service!

Mag extension
Absolutely awesome. The added weight at the bottom really gives a much more balance feel. I liked this product so much, I put in an order for 2 more, grips and backstrap. Can't speak highly enough about their product.
