Factory Ammo for the Goliath
I've been measuring some factory ammo so that we'll know what can fit/function in a Goliath. Without live-fire testing these loads, simple math sorts the available choices into:
- "should work" (white)
- "might work" (yellow)
- "won't work" (red)
Because of a weird little quirk on the inside of a typical Glock mag, we had to make the magazine extension slightly shorter than the rest of the tube. As a result, any load over 1.145" is likely to tip-drag and malfunction. Hollowpoints need to be shorter, i.e. roughly 1.125".
First a disclaimer -- these measurements were taken from a single box -- the next lot might not be the same. Certainly a change in bullet profile can have a big effect on the overall length. Look at the data below and you'll see that within the same brand, the overall length varies based on the bullet SHAPE, not weight. For example, Blazer Brass 147s are actually SHORTER than Blazer Brass 115s. Winchester "White Box" 115s with round nose bullets are famously long at 1.160", but the Winchester "Brown Box" 115s with flat-point bullets measure just 1.118"
EMPHASIS: Just because the round is short enough doesn't mean it will feed reliably.
