This is the exact basepad we ship to the Border Patrol Tactical Operations Group (BORTAC) - only in a fancy black anodize.
This was normally a special-order item, but we made it available to the public in 2015. Developed at BORTAC's request, our 140mm basepad for the HKP30/30L and VP9 has features not found on our basepads intended for competition.
- Anti-vibration locking screws
- Black-coated SPRING STEEL locking plate -- extra strong, extra thin (replaces earlier stainless model)
- High Security locking plate design (no "quick-release" cuts)
- (NEW!) Heavier shoulder profile. More durable overall.
Basepad adds 5 rounds to the HKVP9 and HKP30/P30L .40 S&W and 9mm magazines (both the old and new versions). It also works on the HKP2000 and P2000SK, where it provides 4 additional rounds.
Competition Value: While working on this project, we were contacted by 3-Gunners who also shoot the HK. Happily, the design works for them as well. Northwest 3-Gunners TJ Lurvey and Tavis Miller participated in the R+D. For them, going to 18 or 20/21 rounds total makes the weapon vastly more competitive on the 3-Gun circuit in ways it just wasn't before.
CUSTOM SPRING INCLUDED: The "Border Special" ships with a custom 140mm spring. (Using the standard spring, the slide will not lock back consistently.)

Border mag extension

I found that I had to: 1) bend the end of the spring at the follower out 15-20 degrees and.... 2) cut around 1/4" off that end so there is no drag along the inside of the mag canting the follower causing no slide lockup on last round fired. Be sure to leave enough on that spring end to lock the spring to the guide on the follower bottom. Good wire cutter and pair of needle nose.

HK Border Special VP9L
Works great on my vp9l. Easy to install. Took only a couple min. Makes 17rnd a 21rnd. At 21, it was tight, didn't try squeezing in the 22nd. Also on a closed slide, takes a little more force to seat in mag, but works great. Slide racks fine with 21rnds inside. Build seems very solid also. Was gonna try the HKParts ones, but this TF ones seem a lot better quality from what forums say. Glad I went with TF.

HK Border special - Black w/spring
Solid product. Got these for my 15rd and 17rd mags. 15s go to 20 as specified. 17s go to 21 (22 if you really wonna jam the last one in). Ran em thru matches already. No failures and slide locks back. Will order more when I get more mags.

Solid performance and zero problems
I’ve been running six of these for a few months of competition in Steel Challenge and USPSA CO, with absolutely zero issues of any kind. Despite being dropped in dirt, snow and mud, they just keep running. Even when I screw up and get a slide lock, they do lock reliably, and they don’t scramble rounds when dropped with a partial load. Quality product, and comes with everything you need to convert an HK VP/P30 17-round mag to a reliable 21 rounds (and a very tight 22).

I tried 2 other companies versions and had constant feed failure, even with + power springs. This has functioned flawlessly on the same magazine that the others failed on. No issues with several hundred rounds through this extended magazine.

These are great. Simple to install. Clean design. I've never had one come loose. They hold 20 without breaking my thumb to load. Reliable. Good stuff!
