What's a "Special Mount?"
You only need a "Special Mount" if your PPQ has a steel frame and our standard magwell doesn't fit well. The steel frame guns have some variability in the front-to-back length of the grip -- which affects the fit. In many cases, our magwell that fits the polymer gun snugly will fit loosely enough to "wobble" on a steel frame.
First, watch our basic PPQ Overdrive installation video. Now that you understand how the magwell works, we can explain how to fit one to your pistol. We have intentionally left the "hook" that engages the roll pin unfinished. You will need to remove some material from this hook -- only enough to let the roll pin through.
There are a couple of ways to do this, but the most common looks like this:
1. Mount the magwell on the gun, but don't push the roll pin through.
2. While holding the magwell in place, use the steel frame as a drill guide to remove most of the extra material that is blocking the roll pin hole.
3. Pull the magwell back off, clean away the shavings and clean up the edges of the hook -- then try to push the roll pin through
4. If it won't go, look through the hole to see if you can see any obvious bits of material that weren't removed by the drill.
5. Using a small round file (or similar) gradually remove material, attempting to mount the magwell and roll pin at regular intervals.
Do this in small increments, as we can't put material back on! Eventually the roll pin will slide into place, giving you a solid fit. Typically, this process takes about 30 minutes.
