    BACKSTORY: Not long after buying a TM22, TF Machinist Jim Schroeder needed to learn some new programming software. To get there, Jim decided to make a basepad for his new rifle as a kind of learning project.
     
    Once programmed, he knocked it out using a bit of scrap brass and brought it by the office, planning to talk about the new software. Unbeknownst to Jim, owner Robin Taylor had just met with Rock Island executives, who asked for an accessory basepad for the TM22! 
     
    Jim's side project immediately became a "real project" and went to Rock Island for feedback. In short, everybody loved it.
     
    Product designers all have their particular "flair," and Jim's designs are notably robust and aggressive. In a word, Jim's parts look "rugged." That's why we're calling it the "Rugged 22!"

      TF TM22 “Rugged 22” Brass Baseplate

      Firstly, I didn’t order this. I actually ordered the Brass Charge Handle, and somehow this ended up in the box instead. So, instead of souring-up the Interwebz over it, I decided to try it out. Looks are very aggressive, there’s a coarse knurl on the bottom that, if you drop it on a sandaled foot would be quite unpleasant. I think already I like it. A Weapon all by itself… Fit is pretty good - tight, takes a bit of wiggling and a few raps on the bench to get it on. While you can take the stock mags apart with a little pressure and rotation of your thumb on the plate-button, this plate will require a punch or small screwdriver to get it unlatched. The access-hole is quite deep because of the thickness of the plate. This thing is Heavy - more than an unloaded 15 round mag. Free-Dropping an empty, it’s landing plate-first 10 out of 10 times. I have not yet gotten to try it on the public/gravel range, just the my home range (grass), but I have a good enough first impression that, I think I’ll get a few more, when I re-order the charge handle… The Wife likes this rifle for USPSA Steel Challenge, we’ll see if the weight makes a stabilizing difference - the Derya TM22 is a super lightweight rifle.
