Product Description
Hate dealing with the "Barney Bullet?"
Just want one more round in your S&W M&P .45? The "Edwards 451" is the brainchild of Ralph Edwards, a dedicated IDPA shooter that loves the S&W M&P in .45 ACP. Ralph contacted us and started describing what he'd like to have for his personal guns. Four prototypes a great deal of head-scratching later, the Edwards 451 is a reality.
IDPA competition limits the shooter to having no more than 10 rounds in the magazine, but allows the shooter to load a round into the chamber, then top off the 10-round magazine. In practice, loading your "Barney Bullet" (named in honor of Barney Fife) is annoying and time-consuming. Other shooters use high-capacity mags loaded with 11 rounds to start. The Edwards 451 turns the 10-rounder into an 11, eliminating the "Barney Bullet" and making the magazine easier to speed load and handle in the process.
(WARNING: This practice is NOT LEGAL in California, and other jurisdictions with high-capacity magazine bans.)
Building the Edwards 451 was extremely challenging due to the need to make the part fit into the IDPA "box." The part is made of aluminum, but has been hollowed out sufficiently to stay under IDPA's "no more than one additional ounce" requirement.

+1 extension for M&P 45
Gun is a generation 1 M&P 45 with mag well. Securing screws and backplate interfere with mag well in corners. Mag well will need to be modified somewhat in the back corners. The magazine now holds 11 rounds as advertised.

Great product, works well. Wish the rear plate was black.
