Power up your Canik!
The TF Heavyweight kit for the Canik TP9 SF/X series gives you everything you'll want for serious competition.
- 3X Canik BRASS 140mm +4 basepad
- 1X Canik BRASS "backstrap" grip panel
- 1X Canik BRASS magwell
Taken together, this kit radically changes the center of balance and felt recoil behavior of the light-for-caliber Canik design. We think you'll find the gun feel more substantial, mellower in recoil, and much more "weight neutral" in the hand.
All parts are made from brass, then Cerakoted in the "Tungsten" color to match the color scheme of the Canik.

Pros: Works well and looks nice.
Cons: Expensive for brass castings send the set screw on the back strap was difficult to manipulate. I broke several Allen wrenches and had to use a micro-torch to defeat the factory applied Loctite. I then used a tap to chase the threads and applied my own medium Loctite. Then everything was great. Recommend they check the machining on the threads and leave the Loctite off At the factory.
Thanks for the feedback John, I'll pass that along! FYI: The parts are NOT castings -- they're CNC'ed out of billet. - RT
The product fit well and was easy to install. The cerokote has some blemishes on the mag extentions. Other then that, excellent product. Made the gun feel well in the hand.
The quality of workmanship is great, love the looks, the feel and the weight of the kit together. The downsides. While turning in the set screw on the backstrap to install the magwell on my sfx it got very tight almost to the point of stripping my Allen wrench, that was just to get the magwell on the gun, once I got it on there I fought with the set screw to back it out. I'm unsure of the tension between the backstrap and the magwell because the set screw turned out so hard that I had to use a rag so it didn't dig into my fingers. I'm an airplane mechanic and used to do machining on race engines so tools are very familiar to me. Once I got it set I shot about 2 mags through it and the magwell loosened up so I had to reset it again. Once again fighting it thinking something bad was gonna happen but it has not yet. I have not shot it since so I don't know if I was able to get it right enough or not. Also the cerakote on the inside of the magwell is starting to come off. I done some empty mag checks in and out about 10 times and brass is already starting to show through. I think tungsten would have been a better option for all and I also feel that the threads could have been cut better, also leaving the loctite off and letting the consumer put it on would have been a lot better idea. Just my opinions and comments. Your product is great otherwise and I will be buying again. Thank you
Sorry to hear that Wayne! It's possible your Cerakote wasn't done properly. When you feel like it's time, call us and we'll re-do the coating for you. -- RT
Good quality, good fit and works great. A must buy if you have a Canik.
I had previously purchased the aluminum base pads and backstrap separately, but the kit is quite convenient as well as all brass. The backstrap better balances the polymer framed gun as well as the additional magazine weight.
Definitely a necessary upgrade for the SF or SFX.
This has really balanced my Canik out and feels great in my hand. My red dot doesn't jump as much anymore between shots. The magazine really drops out well and happy with the 22 rounds. I am really excited to run this for 3 Gun. I added a Talon Sandpaper grip and it is really solid in the hand. The tungsten looks great and matches the slide perfectly. Don't think twice, buy this kit.
This is my second set, every bit as good as the first. I did have to file about a half millimeter off the bottom of my grip to get it to fully seat, no big deal. The added weight is just what is needed for competitive shooting. Highly recommended. Color match is perfect and looks exactly like the first set I bough a while back. Mag bases give +4 with room to spare so mags slip right in.
I recently purchased both the Canik TP9SFx and the Canik Heavyweight kit from Taylor Freelance. I found the gun not in any direct need of these parts, it performs great on it's own, but if you want to turn the SFx into a racecar, these will be a great start.
I decided to go Brass over alluminum on a hunch. I have had aluminum baseplates and magwells in the past, so I wanted something with more heft. These add plenty of weight in all the right spaces.
My only complaint is that the gun only comes with 2 magazines.
On a side note, I have since purchased more magazines, so now i need more base plates. Keep up the good work Taylor Freelance.
Fit perfectly very high quality
